Anime characters with heterochromia always promise something interesting and unique about them, from personality to power. And of course, they are usually very famous too. Let’s do a head-count these ladies and gentlemen!
In case you didn’t know, heterochromia iridis / iridum is a condition where a person has one eye or both eyes colored unusually. There are three types of heterochromia commonly seen:
- Central: the center of your iris has a different color from the outer area of it.
- Segmental: you can spot dot-like parts of different colors on your iris.
- Complete: two irises are of two colors.

Female Anime Characters With Heterochromia
1. Kurumi Tokisaki (Date A Live)
The antagonist in Date A Live sports one crimson eye and one yellow eye with a clock within, a symbol of her time-control power. Due to the dangers following her wake, Tokisaki Kurumi is also known as “The Nightmare”.
Although she is obsessed with Shidou, it has always been a challenge for him to catch this unpredictable lady.
Like many different eye color anime characters, there is some kind of duality in Kurumi. Despite the innocent facade she sometimes puts on, the insanity in her actions is unmatched. Deep inside, she harbors a strong dislike and distrust for humanity like most Spirits of her kind.
However, you can say she is far from a mere killing machine, for her targets are abusive criminals.
2. Suiseiseki (Rozen Maiden)
Considered an iconic heterochromia character, Suiseiseki has one brown eye to match her brown hair and one green eye like the color of her long dress. As the third doll of Rozen, it’s no surprise that her appearance borderlines on the cute and frail side.
Her difference is shown through the way she sticks to her twin sister, and they usually spend time tending to the garden, making the most out of their ability to communicate with plants. Although Suiseiseki tries not to get involved in the Game, the things her watering can do can’t be overlooked.
The ability to fly while being in the case and to generate gates to the dream world is shared between the twins, yet Suiseiseki needs the person to fall asleep first.
3. Neko (K-project)
With heterochromia blue-green eyes, we would probably expect many signs of bipolarity from Neko, but she is pretty much an open book. She resembles a true cat with pride for her power and confidence in what she’s able to do. Playing games makes her incredibly happy, and dangers don’t seem to exist in her eyes.
Sometimes, Neko lets her childishness show and even seems selfish. It’s when her usual cheerful attitude disappears and gets replaced by insecurity. The affection she has for Yashiro incites her to go as far as alternating his memories and making him believe he belongs to her only.

4. Mei Misaki (Another)
Mysterious and somehow scary with one red eye and an eye patch covering the other, Misaki Mei is an unforgettable character for fans of the thriller genre. Behind the patch is a green eye made of glass. After an accident caused her to lose one eye, Mei’s adoptive mom replaced it with a glass prosthetic.
The glass eye looks cute to us as viewers, yet it makes Mei extremely insecure. As the whole 3-3 class agreed to not acknowledge her existence, the least she could do was to hide the odd eye and avoid giving them another reason to treat her like a freak.
However, the protagonist finds himself drawn to her like a moth being attracted by flames, and the things registered through her green eye are better left unaware.
5. Emilou Apacci (Bleach)
If the tomboy-ish appearance isn’t enough for Emilou Apacci to leave an impression on you, the special eye colors she has will do. With a bright blue eye and an amber eye with a ruby outline, her eyes resemble two gems and somehow reflect part of her personality.
Impatient, impulsive, but immensely committed are the best words to describe Emilou. When she has her loyalty set somewhere, she is almost aggressive and fierce in keeping them safe even if her faith in their strength remains steady.
Despite being short-tempered, Emilou knows who is her true enemy and even warns her past opponents about the real threats to them.
Male Anime Characters With Heterochromia
1. Shoto Todoroki (My Hero Academia)
Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia is undoubtedly the most popular heterochromia character lately. Not only are his eyes in duality, but his hair is also divided into two colors due to the quirk he possesses. On his right side, the hair is white and the iris is grey. Meanwhile, his left eye is a turquoise shade to match his intense red hair.
As Shoto hates everything and anything related to his terrible and selfish father who only sees him as a tool, he also loathes the left half of his body until Deku makes him realize he is the owner of this power. Now that he willingly wields both Ice and Fire quirks, he becomes a formidable opponent to cross.
2. Kakashi Hatake (Naruto)
This list will be incomplete without Hatake Kakashi, one of the most talented ninjas from Naruto.
Most of the time, we only get to see his ordinary black iris, the other eye is hidden beneath the headband of his village as he doesn’t always need to use it. When he lifts the band, however, it means he is serious about fighting and his opponent should be very careful.
He wasn’t born with unique eyes though. The red Sharingan is a final gift from his friend who couldn’t make it past the 3rd Ninja World War. Kakashi carries the powerful eye as well as the strong wills of its previous owner and makes his name known to everyone in the shinobi community.
3. Ciel Phantomhive (Black Butler)
Who could forget the wealthy and seemingly arrogant master in Black Butler, Ciel Phantomhive, and his hauntingly beautiful eyes? The left eye has a blue shade as if to commend his name (Ciel means “sky” in French!), and the right eye is bright purple with a pentagram surrounded by the word “tetragrammaton”.
The one-of-a-kind pattern on this purple eye is the sign of his contract with the demon who currently stays by his side as a butler. He needs to keep this eye covered, and we can’t deny the eyepatch adds an interesting touch to his gothic style!
4. Obanai Iguro (Demon Slayer)
Serpent Hashira Obanai Iguro and his odd eyes are something anime fans are looking forward to seeing in the next release of Demon Slayer. His appearance and his clothes are nearly monotonous, which helps the heterochromatic eyes stand out. Even his widely cut mouth and his pet snake couldn’t compete with the green and yellow optics.
Unlike his petite form, Obanai is a skillful swordsman with harshness and strictness for his peers. After Tengen Uzui declares that he can’t fight anymore, Obanai is displeased, but we can argue that he is simply too devoted to the Corps. Furthermore, when he adores or cares about someone, he isn’t hesitant to express his feelings.
5. Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass)
Lelouch and his bright purple eyes are incredibly beautiful and well-known to anime veterans. Only when he invokes the Geass does the left eye shine a magenta glow.
He is also a character with duality. His true nature is a leader who manipulates and deceives, concealed by the charming prince-like façade.
It looks like Lelouch couldn’t care less about his inferiors, but he actually sees them as reliable and valuable allies rather than some kind of tools. For his sibling and his friend, his attitude towards them can even be considered affectionate.
Final Words
These anime characters with 2 eye colors won’t ever fail to surprise you with how unique they are! Rest assured, they always manage to attract a remarkable number of fans whether they are the main character or not.
